Brittney's Story of Antarctica

We've all got that one place that we've fantasized about since childhood. One place that felt so far off it felt like it wouldn't ever be in reach.

For me that was Antarctica, I put this fantasy trip on Karen's radar early on while organizing other trips with her help. When Karen sent me info on a sale on an expedition cruise to Antarctica it started the ball rolling and I obsessed over the possibility of visiting the 7th continent. It didn't take me long to say YOLO and book the trip.

Karen sent me a few companies that made the voyage and after reviewing the options, one that was over the top with its price tag and luxury, one that was fairly bare bones, and then somewhere in the middle, the one I went with, Hurtigruten. I found their boats to be the perfect mix of new and comfortable while also being affordable.

January 2024 we set sail and after two days of crossing the drake, an adventure in itself, we woke up in Antarctica. There are no words to accurately describe how beautiful and amazing this place is. From getting up close with thousands of penguins to camping in utter silence where the only interruptions you hear are whales and cracking icebergs this trip was awe inspiring.

It was hard to know what to expect from Antarctica but it delivered, this trip turned out to be everything I wanted and more. I went into this thinking Antarctica is a once in a lifetime trip, but I can't wait for the day I can go back... until then Svalbard and African Safaris are in my thoughts.
